Welcome to the Why I’m Not Writing This Week series!
If you’re not familiar with this series, just know that the only thing writers love more than writing is avoiding writing. And I am definitely no exception. Every Friday, I list five things that distracted me from my writing this week.
I encourage you to share with me your reasons for not writing every week too and I’ll share my favorites in the latest edition.
Next In Fashion
My most recent binge watch has been the Netflix show, Next in Fashion. I mainly picked it up because it reminded me of Project Runway, which I used to love. But I also was dying to see Tan France on my screen again. It’s a great low-key, relaxing show to watch right now.
Working From Home
This week, I started working from home full time due to my pregnancy and growing concerns about the virus in North Carolina. I’m used to doing my writing work from home and I expected a smooth transition to my full-time work. But I’ve found myself struggling to enjoy my evenings and stopping my work brain from taking over.
Getting The House Ready
This weekend, Daniel and I spent some time getting the house ready for our growing family. We made a donation and throw away piles and started trying to find creative storage places for everything else. I thought I’d have a hard time getting rid of so much stuff but I’ve definitely been in a purge mood lately.
COVID-19
Things continue to get worse in North Carolina. Schools are closed for at least two weeks, but likely through the end of the school year. Restaurants and bars are closed and my upcoming baby classes have all been canceled. I’ve also had to cancel a trip home to see my family, which breaks my heart. I keep thinking “Things can’t get much more extreme”, but I turn around and here we are. I just hope for things to settle down and we can adjust to a new normal.
Making Time For Connections
With all that’s been going on and working hard to keep myself healthy and isolated, I’m also trying to find time to stay connected with my friends and family. I’m lucky that I get to live with my very best friend, so I get some human contact and affection every day. And my husband is also doing a good job reminding me to reach out to others and stay connected. I hope all of you are remembering to do that too!
