Welcome to the Why I’m Not Writing This Week series!
If you’re not familiar with this series, just know that the only thing writers love more than writing is avoiding writing. And I am definitely no exception. Every Friday, I list five things that distracted me from my writing this week.
I encourage you to share with me your reasons for not writing every week too and I’ll share my favorites in the latest edition.
Stormy Weather
We’ve been hit with some nasty storms this week, including a really bad storm last night. We had flooding all around our area, down trees and closed schools. We’re lucky that we had a bit of flooding in our basement, but no major property damage or power outages.
The Good Place
The last episode of The Good Place came out last Thursday and I got a chance to watch it over the weekend. The hour long episode was absolutely prefect for the end of such a special show. I laughed, I cried (a lot), and ultimately felt at peace with the ending. I know I’ve said this before, but if you haven’t watched this show before you have to. It’s worth it.
Bojack Horseman
Likewise, the last episodes of the Netflix original show, Bojack came out on Friday. Me and my husband, who have been watching the show for years, were going to try to draw the last few episodes out and savor it, but ended up binging the episodes in less than 24 hours. It was really the perfect ending though and absolutely appropriate for a show about a broken industry and broken (horse)man.
Ultrasound
We went back to the doctor this week and got to an ultrasound of our baby-to-be. We got to see him at lots of different angels, and were really blown away but how “person”-like he already looks. Everything seems to be going very well so far and we’re getting more anxious for July to arrive.
Work Party
Last Friday, I had a work event for my day job, that went well on into the night. It was a murder mystery-themed masquerade party, and we had a great time of course. the party did take it out of me though. I keep assuming I still have my pre-pregnancy energy levels, but like Cinderella, as soon as midnight strikes, I seem to be zapped of all magical charisma and only want to go home and crawl into bed.
