Why I'm Not Writing This Week 9/27
Welcome to "Why I'm Not Writing." We all know that the only thing writers like doing more than writing is avoiding writing. So every Friday I list five things that have distracted me from my writing that week.
I also encourage you to share with me what made you procrastinate this week by posting with #whyimnotwriting on Twitter, Facebook & Instagram, or share in the comments below. I'll feature my favorites with everyone here.
St. Baldrick’s Day
After two months of hard fundraising work, my husband shaved his head this past Saturday to help raise money for children’s cancer research through St. Baldrick’s. He ended up raising $500 in total and the event raised over $35,000 which will all go towards finding a cure for childhood cancer. We’re so grateful to all of our friends and family who donated.
So Much Fun With Friends
After the head shaving fun, we got to spend a super fun evening with our friends who came out for the event. With drinks, great food and lots of laughs, it was a refreshing night that I’ve really needed. I’m hoping to be able to build more friend time into my schedule in the upcoming weeks.
Pitch Wars
Pitch Wars submissions are finally open! If you’re not familiar with the event, it’s essentially a writing competition, where the prize is to be mentored by a published author to help get your book ready for querying in the Spring. I submitted last year, but unfortunately, didn’t make it. I’m crossing my fingers for my new project this year.
Parks and Recreation
On my recent sitcom re-watch binge, the new season is Parks and Rec! This show is like a comfort food to me. It’s always funny, always easy to watch and full of some of the smartest comedy I’ve ever seen. Plus, it’s one of my few favorite TV shows that my husband actually doesn’t mind watching with me.
SCBWI Carolinas Conference
The 27th annual Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators starts today in Charlotte, North Carolina. I’m really excited to jump into my second year at the conference and see all the panels presented over the weekend. I’m even more anxious to get starts as friends of mine are actually presenting this year. Best of luck, guys!
