Why I'm Not Writing This Week 3/15
Welcome to "Why I'm Not Writing." We all know that the only thing writers like doing more than writing is avoiding writing. So every Friday I list five things that have distracted me from my writing that week.
I also encourage you to share with me what made you procrastinate this week by posting with #whyimnotwriting on Twitter, Facebook & Instagram, or share in the comments below. I'll feature my favorites with everyone here.
Riverrun Film Festival Launch!
This week, my favorite film festival has their annual launch event. It looks like there are going to be some amazing films this year, if you live locally, you can go to their website (riverrunfilm.com) and start planning your film schedule. If you live out of state, consider one of their packages with local, historic hotels in the area. You won’t regret it! Riverrun run from April 4th-14th, 2019.
Dumplin’
I finally got the chance to watch the Netflix original film, Dumplin’, with Jennifer Aniston and Danielle Macdonald. I absolutely loved the movie. It was funny, touching and, while I’ve never been a huge Dolly Parton fan (don’t tell my grandpa), the soundtrack was perfect. If you want to laugh, cry and “awww” all in one sitting, make sure you check it out.
International Literary Awards - LAST DAY TO SUBMIT!
The Center for Women Writers is excited to launch this year’s International Literary Awards! Guidelines for each category are on our Submittable page. TODAY IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO SUBMIT! DO IT NOW!!!
The winner in each genre—poetry, creative nonfiction & fiction—will receive $1,000. An honorable mention in each genre (judge’s discretion) will receive $150.
Lent
This was the first full week of lent, and, I’m not going to lie to you guys, it’s been a struggle. Instead of starting new TV shows, I’ve been watching movies and youtube videos instead. While it technically doesn’t qualify as “Binge-watching” according to the rules I set up, it does feel a bit like cheating. I may have to make up some new rules…
Self-Retreat
This weekend I’ve taken myself to Saxaphaw, North Carolina for a relaxing self-retreat. I’m hoping to get a lot of writing done, eat some amazing food and just try to enjoy being the moment for a few days before real life comes back to me on Monday.
