Why I'm Not Writing This Week 3/13

Welcome to the Why I’m Not Writing This Week series!

If you’re not familiar with this series, just know that the only thing writers love more than writing is avoiding writing. And I am definitely no exception. Every Friday, I list five things that distracted me from my writing this week.

I encourage you to share with me your reasons for not writing every week too and I’ll share my favorites in the latest edition.

Inked Voices Workshop

I’ve talked about InkedVoices.com before, but it’s a great resource for any writer. I just started an intensive workshop with three other writers and an editor to work on my query and first 20,000 words of my new novel. I am completely stoked to dive in!

Onward

We went to the movie theaters this weekend to see the new Pixar movie, Onward. It was a very sweet movie, perfect for fans of fantasy, like me. The middle of the movie was a bit quiet, which I don’t mind but was surprised to see. The ending, however, was perfect, and drew a few tears from everyone in the audience.

Baby Shower Planning

We’ve started the baby shower planning process this week with my in-laws. I’m really looking forward to the party, getting to see all my friends and family in one place. Luckily, my in-laws are party planning experts so I’m not having to stress too much about it. I just get to pick out my favorite options and get excited.

Growing Concerns

Unfortunately, the coronavirus concerns in my area have only grown. Two cases have been found in the county that I work in and we’re now in a state of emergency. All public events are cancelled, but most public schools and workplaces are operating as usual.

Exhaustion

Really when it comes down to it, my friends. I’m just exhausted. With everything going on in my personal life and in the world at large, I’d love to learn in my writing and let that fuel me. Instead, I’m just feeling burnout. I’m very lucky to have some loving and supportive people in my life and I hope, that if you’re feeling the same, that you have that support system available for you as well.
